I am very happy to announce some new titles for release later this year, It’s a bit of a John Carpenter & Alan Howarth love in as we just signed a deal with Alan Howarth to manufacture and distribute vinyl versions of Prince Of Darkness , They Live, Halloween II & Halloween III: Season Of The Witch (Before you ask we are working on the original Halloween too it’s just going to take a while longer than the others) I’m super excited by this because these scores have been unavailable on vinyl for upwards of 20 years!
Here is what Alan has to say about our reissue program
“The fact that the music the John Carpenter and I created for these now classic genre movies has an audience today proves their validity as pioneering works of analog synthesis. Death Waltz is committed to making this music available to the audience of vinyl underscores their importance. We released these scores originally on vinyl, and at that time did not realize that this would be the best way to experience them in the future. Listening to digital versions of this music sacrifices the subtitle warmth and analog quality for convenience. Long live vinyl !”
Jay Shaw donned his Carpenter hat again for us to produce Halloween III. Somehow I knew this would be his favorite from the series and he’s turned in artwork that is as singular as the film is within the series. When he told me process behind the creation of the image I can tell you my mind was blown, can you gues what it is ? This cover is for true fans of this episode for sure…
Brandon Schaefer has done the sleeve for Halloween II, Brandon was one of the first artists I contacted about working for the label and in that time has gone from strength to strength , he’s delivered something that is really playful but at the same time manages to be super creepy.
Jay Shaw has also done the sleeve for The Devil’s Business which if you haven’t seen it (and chances are you haven’t because it doesn’t hit DVD until later in the year) is a pitch black British gangster film with a heavy satanic bent, slow burning and claustrophobic as all hell. This is definitely worth tracking down when it comes out. The soundtrack by Justin Greaves (Crippled Black Phoenix) is a masterful, majestic post rock symphony with lots of lush orchestration and we know you’ll love it. When I asked Jay to design the art I send him a link to watch the film the next day he emailed me and summed up the movie perfectly , ‘it’s pretty much what you would end up with if House Of The Devil and Kill List had a baby, it’s like Sidney Lumet directed a satanic panic film’
Gary Pullin has designed the sleeve for They Live and I have to say it’s stunning, captures the mood of the score perfectly.
