Unfortunately the combination of a corrupt database & caching issues seemed to cause cart issues for a lot of you. These were completely out of our control.

I can ensure everyone, no payment details whatsoever have been leaked. All our transactions are via paypal and no-ones payment details are held in our database at all.

Moving forward we’ll be fixing all problems to ensure this doesn’t happen again. More Importantly we are already looking into other third-party backup solutions, (such as band camp) as to provide the customer with options in the future if anything like this happens again.

Unfortunately when you have a super ltd release of less than 700 clear vinyl copies worldwide and several thousand people logging on to the site hitting refresh it is always going to cause problems.

We can assure you that we are dreadfully upset that so many people missed out on securing a copy of this record and will be looking at options over the next few days as to make it up to you.

I know it is easy to take your frustrations out on people but neither ourselves or Virtual Pudding could have predicted this. We did a full day of testing the site ahead of it going up and none of these issues appeared.

Death Waltz really is a labour of love and I’m sorry for the people that feel we let them down. We put so much time and effort into what we do and we want as many people as possible to enjoy our releases.

The label has grown so much over the first year that we will look into keeping the ltd nature of our releases but increasing them just enough so that everyone gets a shot at them

With regard to not being allowed to ship Maniac to the USA / France, our hands are tied on this (just as the companies in those two countries releasing the vinyl can’t ship outside their territories ) We have told people for a month now about this shipping situation and have tried to clearly state it in mail outs and on the web site. We are redirecting people to our forum www.spintheblackestcircles.com as we have have set up a vinyl buddy system and lots of UK folks are buying copies to trade with people in these countries.

It’s a joy to be releasing the score by Rob , it’s steely synth tones hark back to the golden age of 80′s splatter soundtracks but it’s completely contemporary , managing to me mournful & melancholy one moment and brutal and harsh the next.

The cover art by Jay Shaw is incredible  and somehow manages to capture the sadness in the film (bypassing the extreme gore and getting right to the heart of the killer.

We wanted to do something really special with this release and definitely wanted to reference the fact that the film is told from the killers perspective , ( you mostly see Frank in various mirrors , windows and random reflections) & our production house has given the sleeve a silver UV lamination effect that basically turns the whole thing into a mirror, and as much as we want to show you the art we’ve decided to keep it under wraps until the release date (some things are worth waiting for and in the age of spoilers and upfront teases it’s nice to hold something back and surprise folks)

We are thrilled to be releasing a double vinyl album of THE FOG which includes the original movie score as released in 1984 but also features a bonus record including all of the original movie cues which have never been available on vinyl before.

Did we mention that the cover art is by Dinos Chapman ? You heard right the Dinos Chapman, I can’t tell you how thrilled and , humbled & excited we are to have worked with Dinos on this project . As an internationally renowned solo artist, and together with his brother Jake, Dinos Chapman makes iconoclastic sculpture, prints and installations that examine, with searing wit and energy, contemporary politics, religion and morality. The Chapmans have exhibited extensively, including numerous shows at White Cube, Tate Britain, and Tate Liverpool.

An edition of 1000 the record is heavy weight 180g coloured vinyl packed to black polylined inner sleeves and featuring a heavyweight casebound (Tip on) full colour gatefold sleeve with matt lamination, including an art card of the cover image on 140gsm uncoated offset paper. all housed in a screenprinted plastic overbag featuring exclusive new cover art by Dinos Chapman. Liner notes by John Carpenter , Randall D. For one night only Cigarette Burns and Death Waltz will take over the Nave, a beautiful old deconsecrated church in Islington which is now a licensed arts and performance space, and transform it into a hall of cinematic worship, providing a suitably atmospheric backdrop for a unique film presentation of John Carpenter’s 1980 chiller, screening from a rare original 16mm full scope print, with full exclusive trailer programme  and the evening’s music soundtrack provided by KAB radio.

 After the screening Death Waltz Recording Company will unveil his original artwork for the album cover, Chapman’s own interpretation of the film. Attendees will be the first people to see this specially commissioned work and will have the chance to purchase the limited edition double LP set before it goes on general sale the following week.

Anyone that knows me is aware of my love of physical product and vinyl in particular (For the last 5 years I have co-ordinated Record Store Day in the UK) the thrill of listening to something on vinyl is something that no other format can come close to. The ritual of giving yourself over to a record and spending time with it is something that never gets old for me. I find that when I listen to music on my ipod I tend to flick through it to find something and then when I find it I start flicking again, whereas when I listen to Vinyl I let myself get lost in it and become immersed in the beauty and warmth of the sound only ever coming out of this trance to get up and turn it over.

Death Waltz IS a record label first and foremost, these items are meant to salivated over, played to death , poured over until the sleeves are tatty and the vinyl is worn out but mostly they are there to be loved. My three loves are music , film and art and to be able to combine these things into my business is something for me to cherish, creating new art is thrilling , as is talking to composers for sleeve notes but seeing people post pictures and talk about how much they love our releases on Instagram & Twitter is something that can’t be beaten. It’s you guys that have purchased records from us that have made us what we are so far and I am personally grateful that you have trusted us to re-issue these classic records. We have much to do in 2013 a full Hammer re-issue program begins in March with Twins Of Evil & The Devil Rides Out , we have some choice Italian releases lined up including The New York Ripper & The Bronx Warriors and we will also release our first contemporary soundtracks in the shape of Maniac, The Devil’s Business & Room 237 the latter two will also be our forays into cd titles, we have the excellent ACDSleeve making our CDs for us , they’ll feature triple fold out pop up packaging they are quite frankly the sexiest CDs you have ever seen. We’ll be adding download codes to titles where licenses allow too.

We will of course have a selection of releases especially for Record Store Day, which will only be available in Independent record shops taking part in this years celebration.

So anyway, thanks for sticking with us, it’s been a steep learning curve and we’ve had some battles (mainly with Postal services across the globe) but I can honestly say we have learnt so much in 2012 that hopefully means we wont see too many bumps in the road for 2013.
